It started with a dream in 1969 to deliver a sports car everyone could enjoy. In October of that year, the first Z hit showrooms. Available both domestically and abroad, this iconic sports car quickly found its way into the hearts and minds of driving enthusiasts. It was awarded Import Car of the Year, and a record 86,007 cars were sold during the first year of availability.

Nissan further refined the Z during the 2nd generation, introducing available t-tops and a turbocharged engine. The third generation proudly offered an all-new 3.0-liter V-6, improved performance, and became the 2nd highest selling Z in history.

In 1990, Nissan captivated the car world with the introduction of the 300ZX. The fourth generation featured the 3.0-liter V-6 with variable valve timing (VVT) and produced 222 hp (naturally aspirated) and 300 hp (twin turbo), respectively. Furthermore, this was one of the first production cars developed utilizing a CAD program. This allowed Nissan to push the boundaries of design, resulting in a vehicle that is still considered to be one of the most attractive sports cars ever made.

After a short hiatus in the United States due to rising production costs, Nissan released the fifth generation Z to much fanfare in 2002. Featuring an improved version of the 3.5-liter V6 engine also used in the Skyline, the fifth generation quickly became the gold standard of high-performance sports cars. Available in five trim levels, the fifth generation offered something for everyone, including both touring and track editions.

In 2008, Nissan announced that the 370Z would be available as the next Z. This sixth generation began sales in 2009 and boasted a 3.7-liter V6 engine with a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds. This generation also boasted a new six-speed manual transmission with SynchroRev Match, further boosting performance.

In the summer of 2021, Nissan announced the completely redesigned Z. This seventh generation no longer featured an identifying number as the previous models did, and would simply be known as the Nissan Z. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0 liter V6 and sporting a retro design, Nissan promises to deliver the best driving experience possible with the all-new 2023 Z!
