First of all, the 2016 Sentra was given the same V-shaped grille that is used on the Maxima and Altima, making them distinctive siblings in the sedan class. The changes also resulted in a different hood shape and Nissan added boomerang-shaped headlights that have become popular. New LED low-beam headlights will become standard on some Sentra trims. These are features often found in more expensive lines, but now offered to Sentra owners to connect them to the premium Altima and Maxima.

Inside the 2016 Sentra, Nissan upgraded the upholstery, steering wheel, and shift knob. The center stack was reconfigured to arrange the infotainment and climate control systems. There is a new 5.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist Display in front of the driver, acting as a multi-information portal for several systems. Depending on trim level, drivers will have access to a technology package including intelligent cruise control and forward emergency braking. A separate navigation package will include blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

All 2016 Sentras will use a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine developing 130 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. The base trim will use a 6-speed manual transmissions, while other trims will use a continuously variable transmission. Nissan has also stiffened the chassis with additional bracing and re-tuned the suspension.
