For Nissan, safety is never optional: the 2018 Nissan Kicks features Automatic Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Warning to monitor the cars ahead of you and avoid potential frontal dings or worse in case they suddenly decelerate.

Bottom line?  The 2018 Nissan Kicks blends cutting-edge technology features with comfort, style and safety.  You can cruise around town – or on the highway – with everything you need to make the ride a memorable one.  The 2018 Nissan Kicks will hit Nissan dealerships including Peruzzi Nissan in late Spring 2018. How to Jump Start Your Car

You’re leaving work after a long day and want to get home and relax. You get into your and go to turn the key and — nothing. Your car battery died, and you’re stuck wherever you are trying to figure out what you can do to get yourself out of this predicament. If you have one of those services that send roadside help, just sit and wait for help to arrive. If you don’t have a membership with one of those services, you still have options.

If a Good Samaritan comes around, they can give your car with a dead battery a needed jump. For those occasions, it’s always wise to keep a set of jumper cables in the trunk. However, the times you need the jumper cables might be few and far between, so you may not be intimately familiar with how to use them. This guide will help you be prepared for the next time you need them.

Make Sure the Cars Are Ready

First things first — both cars need to be parked and shut completely off. Keep the vehicles close to each other, but make sure they aren’t touching before attaching the cables. Once this is in place, pop the hoods of the cars and have the cables untangled and ready to go. Engaging the parking brake is an additional safety precaution you can use to keep your vehicles safely in place.

Attach the Clips to the Correct Connectors

The next step involves attaching the correct clamp onto the corresponding battery terminal. Getting them mixed up means your dead battery won’t get the necessary charge to get moving again.

Attach one of the red clamps on the jumper cable to the positive terminal on your battery (it will either be marked with a + sign or POS.) Attach the other red clip to the positive battery terminal of the other car.

While you’re there, put one of the black clamps to the negative terminal of your rescuer’s car. Take the other black clip and attach it to a non-painted metal surface of your vehicle (like a metal strut that holds the hood open), a surface NOT near the battery.

Start Your Engine

This next step is crucial to getting your dead car battery charged to the point where you can drive to a local mechanic. The Good Samaritan should start their vehicle and let it run for a few minutes. Then, try and start yours.

If you have no luck, check that all the cables are properly connected. Then you should try again in a few minutes. If your battery still doesn’t cooperate, it may need to be replaced by a professional.

But, if the engine does turn over, thank your newfound friend, and then drive around for at least 15 minutes to build up some juice in the battery. At this point, you should be fine to get where you need to go without worrying that your car will suddenly die.

What Happens If It Still Doesn’t Start?

If, the next time you go to start the car, and it doesn’t, your battery isn’t holding the charge — which means you’ll need to get a new one. The typical car battery lasts an average of four years. If you discover that you do need a new car battery, bring your vehicle to our Nissan service center

In addition to replacing your battery, our service experts will check many other parts of your car to ensure it is running correctly. If you’re looking to purchase a new Nissan vehicle, Peruzzi Nissan also has a vast selection of over 240 new Nissan vehicles in the Levittown, PA, and Trenton, NJ areas in stock and ready to purchase.

How to Clean Car Battery Terminals

Car maintenance can prove to be as intensive or routine as you want. Ensuring you have a car running smoothly means you need to undergo regular maintenance checks and inspections to keep it in good working condition. However, there are some ways you can keep your car in good condition by adding one thing to your maintenance schedule — cleaning your battery terminals.

The following infographic shows what can happen when you don’t regularly check and clean your battery terminals:

Your car’s battery is critical to your car’s ability to function (as you’ve probably noted when it doesn’t start). Keeping the terminals free of corrosion is essential if you want the electrical current to flow effectively between the battery and your engine. Don’t worry – cleaning a battery terminal is a simple part of your ongoing vehicle maintenance. Here’s how, courtesy of the expert mechanics at Peruzzi Nissan.

Step 1 — Be Prepared

First, you’ll want to raise the hood and check the terminals. If you see a white, powdery substance around them, that’s corrosion. Corrosion happens when hydrogen gas gets released from the battery acid and creates a chemical reaction with the metal battery terminals. Getting rid of this corrosion is your top priority.

Step 2 — Have the Right Tools for the Job

You’ll need disposable gloves, safety goggles, and a sturdy work apron to protect against any battery acid. Also, you’ll want to add a battery terminal cleaner, a spray bottle filled with water, some petroleum jelly, a wire brush, metal pliers, and a clean, soft cloth to your list of tools.

Step 3 — Safety First, Second, and Third

Any kind of automotive work requires taking the necessary safety precautions: ensure that the engine is off and the car has cooled down for at least a half-hour. Outside of the battery, avoid touching the metal parts of the vehicle to prevent any short-outs.

Step 4 — Get in There and Clean the Battery Terminal

Now it’s time to don your safety gear and disconnect the battery by removing the rubber or plastic covers connecting the cables to the battery itself. Look for the negative terminal — it will either have a minus symbol or a black terminal cover. Using the pliers, loosen the clamps on the terminal. Repeat with the positive terminal — either a red cap or a plus symbol.

Following the directions on the bottle of battery terminal cleaner, spritz the terminals and the clamps. Take the wire brush and scrub them down until you see bare metal. Spray the cleaned terminals and clamps with water to remove any remaining cleaner or corrosion, and dry with a clean cloth.

Apply a dab of petroleum jelly to each terminal to help fight future corrosion. Doing what you can to help protect your battery from future corrosion can help ensure you aren’t hit with any surprise repairs when you thought it was a normal wear and tear issue.

The Last Step — Put It Back Together

Before getting back onto the road, you have to put the freshly cleaned battery terminal back together again. You reattach the positive clamp to the positive terminal (always do this first), then do the same with the negative side. Replace the terminal covers and close the hood. Your battery terminals are clean and ready to keep that power!

If these steps seem too complicated or you’re not interested in cleaning your battery terminals on your own, bring your vehicle to our Nissan service center. In addition to cleaning your battery terminals when necessary, our service experts will check many other parts of your car to ensure it is running correctly. From brake pads to timing belts, maintaining coolant levels, or even performing tire rotations, it’s always a good idea to have the professionals take a look at your car.

How to Change Your Car's Oil

Changing your oil isn’t as hard as you might imagine. Basically, all you’re doing is unscrewing the oil plug and filter, letting the oil drain, replacing the plug and filter, and adding fresh, new oil. It’s pretty simple, unless of course, you can’t reach various parts; that’s when it’s better to trust an expert mechanic, like the ones at Peruzzi Nissan.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A jack (optional) to raise the car up to help the oil drain out
  • Adjustable wrench
  • A pan lined with a plastic bag to catch the oil (make sure its big enough to hold it all)
  • Disposable plastic gloves
  • Oil filter wrench (just in case you can’t loosen it by hand)
  • Screwdriver
  • Newspaper to hold the dirty oil filter
  • New bottle of oil (check your owner’s manual for the right grade/viscosity)
  • New oil filter
  • New oil drain plug gasket
  • Funnel
  • Clean, lint-free rag

OK, so now that you have the tools for changing your oil, start with one critical safety measure: make sure the car is in level ground, the gearshift is in “Park” or “Neutral,” and your parking brake is on. Warm the car up for a few minutes (but not so hot that it will burn), then shut off the engine.

You can jack up the car a little bit to ensure that the oil drain plug is at the lower end of the drain pan. On the bottom of the engine, look for a large nut or plug located on the oil pan. Use the adjustable wrench to loosen it.

Place the plastic-lined pan under the oil pan. Wearing a plastic glove, unscrew the drain plug by hand, ensuring that you move out of the way in time to avoid getting oil all over yourself.

After the oil has drained from your engine, time to unscrew the oil filter. This item looks like a tin can and sits atop your engine. Start by loosening the cap atop the filter. You should be able to remove the filter by simply turning it counterclockwise, but if not, use the oil filter wrench; it will have oil in it, so do this carefully.

Punch a hole in the filter with the screwdriver to allow it to fully drain into the pain. This can take a few hours. Afterwards, wrap it in newspaper to make it easier to transport to your nearest recycling center.

Now, install a new oil filter on the engine. Start by lightly moistening the gasket with a little bit of the new oil. Put the filter in place and turn it gently until it settles into place. Unless you can’t reach it, avoid using the oil filter wrench to tighten it; you don’t want to overdo it and crush the gasket.

Replace the oil drain plug, installing a new gasket if needed. Use the adjustable wrench to tighten.

Now, using the funnel, pour all but ONE quart of fresh oil into the oil filler hole (example: if your car requires five quarts, pour only four). Replace the oil filler cap, and run (don’t rev) the engine for about a minute. This helps the oil to circulate. Check for leaks around the filter and oil drain plug.

In about 10 seconds, the oil pressure light or gauge should either go out or move from “Low,” as the filter fills with new oil. If it doesn’t, continue to check for leaks under the car and around the engine.

Now, shut off the engine and wait about ten minutes to let the oil settle. Wipe the dipstick with a clean rag and check the level; keep adding the remaining oil a little at a time until the dipstick reads “Full.”

Remove the drain pan, and prep the old oil to be taken to your recycling center (this is where that plastic bag comes in handy).

Drive around for a few minutes, let the oil settle some more, then recheck your dashboard indicator and dipstick until everything reads “normal.” Now wash your hands, and you’re ready to ride!

If this all seems too complicated for you, or you’re not interested in doing it yourself, you can trust the experts at Peruzzi Nissan to handle it for you. Bring your vehicle in to our Nissan service center. In addition to changing your oil, our service experts will check many other parts of your vehicle to make sure it is running correctly. Speaking of which, the Sentra gets 35 mpg Highway/27 city.

Naturally, safety comes standard, with six airbags and a Rearview Monitor that activates when you engage Reverse. 2018 Nissan Pathfinder

There are plenty of sport utility vehicles to choose from, but smart drivers should take a closer look at the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder, available at Peruzzi Nissan. It’s one of the best cars on the road. Here are a few reasons.

First, the upgraded 2018 Pathfinder makes safety a priority. It’s earned the highest “5-star” rating from the NHTSA. Automatic emergency braking, which can lessen the impact of a potential collision, comes standard, as well as Nissan’s Advanced Airbag System.  Available safety features include a Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Warning, and Intelligent Around-View Monitor which detects moving objects near you.

The standard Advanced Drive-Assist Display on the dashboard provides vital information at a glance. Among that data? Tire Pressure Monitoring to ensure a safer driving experience and Rear Door Alert to remind you not to leave anything (or anyone) behind. There’s also an available Navigation System that ensures that you never get lost — and even points out cool attractions along your route. Plus, never worry about security with Nissan’s standard Vehicle Immobilizer System (sorry, car thieves).

Safety is one thing, but the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder puts equal importance on comfort and connectivity. The Pathfinder seats seven and beats competing vehicles on the amount of front-seat headroom and rear-seat legroom. The available Tri-Zone Entertainment system allows passengers in the front to enjoy their music, even as second-row passengers watch movies on the 8-inch monitors or plug in their laptop. You’ll also get a complimentary three-year trial of Sirius XM’s Travel Link service.

Driving all of that style and safety is a powerful 3.5-liter engine that can tow up to 6,000 pounds (more capacity than competing models) – yet still gets an economical 23 mpg (combined). And it comes in one of the sleekest exteriors (with new colors available for 2018) on the road. It’s no surprise that the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder remains one of the automaker’s most popular choices.

2018 Nissan Leaf

No doubt that automotive technology is evolving – and Nissan’s 2018 Leaf is far, far out on the cutting edge. This exciting all-electric model was just awarded the “Best of Innovation” award at the Consumer Electronics Show. And its worth your time to stop in to Peruzzi Nissan to get an up-close look at this forward-looking car.

The Nissan Leaf is the first 100% all-electric, zero-emission vehicle, one that features both Pro-Pilot Assist and E-Pedal (and one that holds a powerful charge after as little as 30 minutes).  Pro-Pilot Assist takes care of the little things that can drain a driver, such as following the car in front of you, maintaining speed and staying centered in your lane. Pro-Pilot Assist minimizes these annoyances by providing some smart help in navigating them. And while the driver is always responsible, the Pro-Pilot Assist on the Nissan Leaf can even help brake – and bring you to a complete stop in traffic if need be.

The Leaf’s E-Pedal technology also takes a lot of driver fatigue out of the equation, letting you both accelerate and brake by simply (and easily) tapping the gas pedal.

But along with all of this groundbreaking technology, the 2018 Nissan Leaf also factors in a ton of style and technology. The Leaf features a sharp design, including a signature floating roof, translucent blue grille and dynamic front-end. Inside is a customizable information panel that lets the driver easily access all things tech via their smartphone, like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a USB port and Bluetooth.

Simply put, the 2018 Nissan Leaf is a car that’s far ahead of any others on the market. And just how exceptional is it? Well, this model is only available at very select dealerships, such as Peruzzi Nissan. Stop in to see what all the buzz is about. And if you’re looking for a different vehicle, Peruzzi Nissan has over 280 new Nissan vehicles available in the Levittown, PA and Trenton, NJ area. Nissan Winter Driving Tips

During the winter, there are many occasions to stay off the road, safely indoors.  But when you HAVE to drive in bad weather, the experts at Peruzzi Nissan offer these helpful tips.

First, no matter your skill level, driving on snowy or icy roads requires extra attention:

  • Go slow.  It takes longer to slow down on wintry roads.  On the flip side, give yourself some time to build up momentum before tackling a hill. Once you’re on that hill, don’t stop; keep steady pressure on the gas.
  • Before a storm, always check that tires are properly inflated and that you have enough gas – just in case you need to go out (and let’s hope you don’t). If you’re in a situation where you must drive a long distance in bad weather, let someone know where you’re going, and give an ETA for when you should get there.
  • Don’t spin your wheels – literally. Slow, steady acceleration is the best way to get traction on tricky surfaces. Here’s a bonus tip for winter driving: throw a bag of kitty litter in your trunk; it’s an old-school way to give tires help for getting off an icy patch.
  • Never use cruise control on slippery roads. Don’t use your parking brake, either.
  • Keep your exhaust pipe clear of snow or mud to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. For that same reason, never warm up your car in an enclosed garage.
  • If you do get stuck in the snow, don’t go walking around. Remain with your car. Put a brightly-colored piece of cloth in a window crack or on your antenna. At night, turn on the dome light. It doesn’t use a lot of juice, and helps authorities spot you in the dark.

No matter the time of year, it’s always smart to carry the following: road flares, jumper cables, a first-aid kit, spare tire with jack and tire iron, and an extra charger for your phone. A blanket and extra water may also come in handy.

If you’d like some more security of slippery winter roads, visit Peruzzi Nissan and see the full lineup or trucks and SUVs available with all wheel drive. The addition of AWD will make it much easier to maneuver your vehicles on snow or ice in freezing conditions. If you’re looking for a different type of vehicle, Peruzzi Nissan has over 280 new vehicles available in the Levittown, PA and Trenton, NJ area. Peruzzi Nissan also has a large selection of over 500 pre-owned vehicles of many different makes and models. Visit us today in Fairless Hills, PA to take a test drive.

2018 Nissan Titan vs Nissan Titan XD

The Nissan Titan is one of the most popular trucks on the market.  But with two great models to choose from, it can be tough to pick the exact right one for you.  The experts at Peruzzi Nissan can give you an up-close look at these well-designed, hardworking trucks; but in the meantime, here’s a basic comparison.  Also know that each model is available in both single and crew cab versions.

The Nissan Titan is a gas-powered, light-duty truck that’s sturdy, but super-quick to respond.  The V8 engine rates at 390 hp and can handle 394-lb-ft of torque.  Its maximum payload capacity is 1,940 pounds with a towing capacity of 9,730 pounds. This makes the Titan a great choice if you need a truck to handle runs to the home improvement store or a weekend trip to the cabin.

The Titan XD takes things up a notch or two.  It’s heavier, full-length ladder frame allows for bigger loads (about 400 lbs. more payload and 2,700 more towing capacity than the regular Titan).  All told, the XD can carry a little over 2,000 lbs. of payload and tow a maximum of 12,030 lbs.  There are also commercial components, such as heavy-duty brakes, that make this truck a great choice for anyone using it on a jobsite.  Plus, the Titan XD offers a choice between a gas or diesel engine (the Titan is gas-only).

While both the Nissan Titan and Titan XD look very much alike, the biggest difference is in price: the 2017 Titan starts at $29,580 while the Titan XD starts at $31,590.

Still debating?  The 2018 Titans are coming soon, so stop in to Peruzzi Nissan for a sneak peek and a test drive!
